Your Meridian System Before we get into a discussion about energy fields as being part of you, let’s talk about your physical body. Let’s face it, we are all walking around on this planet with a body that is subject to physical laws, that is, laws of physics. When we do things with or to our body, there are effects or consequences connected with those actions that register themselves on it. For instance, if I were in a softball game, playing right field, and someone hit a line drive past where I could readily get to it, I would chase down that ball, turn, and throw the ball as hard as I could to wherever the first base runner was headed. Now here we have a scenario that involves the mental emotional and physical aspects of my being. First of all, I see the ball hit and it soon becomes apparent that that ball is going to go past me. Fight or flight stress sets in and I begin to give chase to the ball with my adrenal glands kicking into high gear. On the way to the ball, I begin thinking where that lead base runner is on the bases. I know I have to get that ball and hurl it as fast and as hard as I can before he gets to home plate, so I get the ball, pick it up and throw it as hard as I possibly can toward the catcher at home plate. As I throw it, all the potency of the adrenaline and the fight or flight stress is channeled into the muscles required to make that throw to home plate with almost superhuman power and accuracy. Now, of course, if I were playing softball regularly, kept in shape and stretched and warmed up before each game, the impact on the muscles involved in that scenario would be significantly minimized. However, if I were just out for a weekend game with friends and I hadn’t played in about 10 years, even with warming up, the impact on my throwing arm and shoulder would be such that I would most likely have at least a sore arm and shoulder for at least several days after a throw like that. So this scenario is one that most of you will have no problem comprehending, because we all pretty much know what it’s like to have sore muscles and we know, at least in general, where those muscles are. So what happens when we begin to talk about activities that impact our internal organs or systems? Well, here the situation begins to take on a different look. Your organs and systems have a backup system to make sure that they are supplied with energy at all times, unless that backup energy becomes unavailable. That backup energy is part of what is known as the meridian system.
The meridian system is comprised of energy pathways, acupressure points and neuro-vascular points on the body that allow energy to flow from the energy bodies, or auric field, to the physical body. This is where the physical body gets it’s most vital nourishment from. If the physical body cannot interface with its auric field, its nourishment becomes cut off. If the physical body goes long enough without this nourishment, it will begin to break down, even if the person is eating regularly and getting the right physical nutrients. The reason that most people aren’t in touch with what is happening to their internal organs and systems, I feel, is that it’s difficult to tell, for most people, whether an organ or system is stressed out until it is no longer getting it’s back-up support from the meridian system. This back-up system involves muscle groups. These muscle groups act as power generating facilities for whatever organ or system that they are designated for. Each organ and system has a set of muscle groups that are assigned to them for back-up support so that when that organ or system becomes stressed out or compromised, it can draw upon those muscle groups for auxiliary power so they can keep going. So the first thing that people will most likely notice if they are having an issue with their spleen or pancreas is that their Latissimus Dorsi, Trapezius or their Triceps muscles are sore or seized up. continued next column >

If these muscles remain chronically sore and/or seized up, that person would need to, first of all, tend to these muscles through some sort of therapy such as massage or deep tissue work and also find out what they can do to nourish and care for these organs so they can return to health. Drugs are usually not the answer to the problem because they tend to put the body into shock. Shock, by the way, is a condition that happens when the meridian system shuts down. So in effect, drugs can cut off the supply of the very energy that the organs need to restore themselves. So what we have is a system that we can use to help provide our physical body with energy so it can stay healthy and that also provides us with an early warning system that lets us know when something is amiss with one or more of our parts that don’t normally sound off when they’re in pain. It would be to everyone’s benefit to at least have some operating knowledge of the meridian system. I am a firm believer of taking control of your own health and this is a very important step towards that. If you don’t already have a copy of “Touch for Health” by John Thie, D.C., I highly recommend picking one up the next time you go to the book store. Every household should have one of these. It’s easy to read and easy to work with, especially with someone else, so get another family member or friend involved. Here’s a little story: Renee and I were in Mexico back in ‘94 for about 6 weeks. We were about 4 weeks into the trip when we were traveling through the mountains in Oaxaca and I stopped to ask directions from these guys sitting on their front porch. They walked over to me and as one of them was talking to me, the other handed me a cup of clear liquid that I thought was water. Feeling thankful for the kind gesture, I accepted the cup and immediately drank its contents, which were about halfway to my stomach when I realized what the substance was – moonshine. As I was leaving, the guy that was talking proceeded to tell me in Spanish that there would be no more rocks in the road the rest of the way. There were rocks in the rest of the 80 miles of dirt road we endured the rest of the way. Later that day, I developed persistent vertigo. A couple of days later I became very ill. On the way to Mexico City, I was evacuating from both ends. While staying in Mexico City, I was getting weaker. Renee decided she needed to try something so she got out the “Touch for Health” book. We had just bought the book a short time before we went on the trip and we hadn’t done much work with it, but Renee discovered through testing procedures in the book that my liver meridian was down. Following the procedures in the book, she worked to bring my liver meridian back up. I slept that night and woke up feeling good again. We continued with our agenda which included going to the Archaeological Museum the next day, which I enjoyed a lot. We were driving a ‘90 Honda Civic hatchback on that trip so we didn’t have a lot packed with us, but thank goodness we did have that book! If you want to become self-sovereign, it’s vitally important that you begin to take control of your life. It starts with taking control of your health. Then you can take control of your thoughts and actions much more easily. You can’t do much with your thoughts and actions if you’re feeling lousy. You have to have that part handled. Learning about meridians is one way. There are dozens and dozens of systems of healing out there to explore. Try different ones and do them if they resonate with you. If you don’t feel good or right about it, then it’s probably not for you, but do try different methods, because more often than not, it takes more than one modality or system to get at the root of an issue and release it.
