Understanding Basic Healing Principles of Natural Cure

by Renee Fleming

Illness does not occur without cause.  Underlying causes of disease must be discovered and removed or treated before a person can recover completely from illness.  Symptoms express the body's attempt to heal, but are not the cause of disease.  Symptoms, therefore, should not be suppressed by treatment.  Physicians and surgeons palliate symptoms instead of removing causes. The elimination of the symptom is not the same as elimination of the disease. In allopathic medicine a symptom is usually thought of as the patient's real disease and the goal is to hold back, decrease or eliminate this symptom. This is often done without addressing the underlying cause and does not promote a cure. The naturopathic physician and other healers seek to treat the causes of disease, rather than to merely eliminate or suppress symptoms.

There can be seeming obstacles, barriers and impediments to healing. Failing to consider obstacles to healing is possibly the most under-considered and neglected aspect to getting well. Not considering these obstacles sets us up to have potential cures fail, even those that are the most perfect and effective treatments, those that are most perfectly programmed to all our healing needs. Healing isn't always simple, easy, painless or automatic.

With the move toward better health with natural healing programs and better nutrition, healing begins to occur. As part of the healing process the body will begin to discard toxic residues which have built up in your body over the years. The healing process usually does not occur without repercussions. During the initial phase of healing, as your body begins to clean house (detoxify), and your vital energy begins to repair and rebuild internal organs, you may experience headaches, uneasiness, flu like symptoms and fatigue. It is important that you adequately rest during this time. These symptoms will pass as your body begins to normalize to a new level of health. The healing of emotional, energy or nervous symptoms are subject to the same laws and might be a little more emotional but many times are accompanied by some physical symptoms mentioned.

As we take in consideration healing, it encompasses many modalities and if blocks occur, other modalities should be viewed and considered and effectively used in removing a block to healing. If a healing modality does not affect an improvement, this is a sure sign that the cause that keeps up the disease/illness still persists" … and, also, "that it must be removed in order that a permanent cure may ensue."

Per Hahnemann, who was a homeopathic physician, paying attention to a patient's lifestyle, diet, environment, general hygiene and miasm is important. It is accepted fact that any sufficiently repeated negative pattern may bring a miasm into existence. It is a known fact that tens of thousands of new negative patterns and even new miasms themselves have come into play since the Hahnemann's time.

Herings law of cure: From above downwards, from within outwards, from a more important organ to a lesser one and in the reverse order of the origin.

Naturally there could be "deviation" from already established principles. As much as we revere the established system, neither Science nor Nature knows of any law, system of education or specialty where knowledge and its boundaries are considered to be absolute and sealed in for all time.

Healing Crisis

Symptoms of the healing crisis may at first be identical to the disease it is meant to heal. But there is an important difference: elimination. A cleansing, purifying process is underway on the physical, mental and emotional level. The body, mind, and spirit are no longer "locked." Sometimes pain and symptoms during the healing crisis are more intense than that of the chronic disease, but it is temporary and necessary.

For example, if you used to get skin rashes, the rashes may reappear or get worse for a period of time as your body eliminates toxins through the skin. You may also experience an initial increase in urination, or you may feel more nervous. You could experience heart palpitations, internal and external shaking and the need to seek bed rest for days. In actuality, you are not getting worse, you are actually getting better. Eventually you will reach a plateau of better health. During the healing crisis, it is important to not suppress these temporary symptoms with drugs or the healing process may become interrupted. Depending on the issues healing crisis could last from days to weeks and in emotional cases possibly months to years depending on the severity of original impact and drug use.

There also could be other symptoms like crying long periods of time, irritability, swelling of the body from having taken drugs to correct problems or suppress pain. As long as the body has the energy to purge, it will, unless it’s being suppressed by something.

The opposite of a healing crisis would be chronic illness due to suppression of acute symptoms via drugs.
